Two Galway athletes enjoyed super performances at the weekend when competing for their schools in the All-Ireland Schools Combined Events in Santry on Saturday.

Claire Rockall (Calasanctius College Oranmore) won the gold medal in the Intermediate Girls competition with a total of 3080 points with the following scores in each of the 5 events - Long jump 4.89, Hurdles 13.2, Shot putt 8.02, High jump 1.59, 800m 2.23.8. In the Junior Girls category, Cathriona Farrell (Athenry VS) put in a super performance to take the silver medal with a total of 2815 points, in the process setting new PBs in the high jump and 800m. Farrell's scores in the individual events were Long jump 4.81, Hurdles 12.7, Shot putt 6.72, High jump 1.68 and 800m 2.41.0.

Both Rockall and Farrell now qualify for the Irish Schools team to contest the International Schools Pentathlon on 9th December in Glasgow.

Other Galway athletes to perform well in the multi-events in Santry included Conor Caulfield (Presentation Athenry) who finished in 6th place with a score of 2288 points (HJ 1.39, Hurdles 17.8, LJ 4.67, 200m 25.2, SP 8.83, 800m 2.18.2) and Rachel Finnegan (Loughrea VS) who finished in 7th place with a score of 2378 points (HJ 1.38, Hurdles 13.1, SP 5.01, LJ 4.60, 800m 2.32.2).
