Galway Schools to the fore in Connacht Primary Schools Cross-Country

Galway primary schools performed with distinction at the Connacht schools cross country finals which were held in Sligo last Saturday.

In the Junior Girls race, the 3 Galway schools finished in the top four teams with Craughwell NS taking the Connacht title, Claregalway in 3rd place and Scoil Chroi Naofa Athenry in 4th place. Grainne McDaid (Craughwell) was the highest placed individual from Galway when finishing 4th.

In the Junior Boys race, Oranmore Boys NS easily won the team title and Liam Forde (Ballyglass NS) took 3rd place in the individual rankings.

In the Senior Girls race, Cregmore NS took the Connacht title with Craughwell NS taking the bronze medals. And Alanna Lally (Crumlin NS) won the individual gold with twins Michelle and Veronica Burke (Scoil Ui Cheithearaigh) taking 3rd and 4th place.

In the Senior Boys race, Oranmore Boys NS took the bronze medals in the team event, just ahead of Craughwell NS in 4th place. While Conor Gillen (Gaelscoil de hIde, Uaran Mor) ran a fantastic race to take individual silver.

Well done to all of the participants as these were tough races on an extremely difficult course, one that most senior runners would struggle on!

Coming into Sligo on the dual carriageway keep coming until you cross the bridge, pass through traffic lights and take the right turn at the next traffic lights (sign-posted Enniskillen), straight through small roundabout until you come to traffic lights (you pass by Sligo IT on the left).  Straight through traffic lights and continue on for about 2 miles and a Toyota garage on your left, 100mts on the right is the football pitch.  You've arrived!

 
Galway Even Ages Cross Country

The Galway juvenile even ages cross country was held yesterday in Dangan in glorious weather conditions for this time of year - very lucky considering what a miserable day it was on Saturday.
