A misty and wet day last Thursday saw Galway 2nd level schools take part in the schools cross-country in Tuam and Galway. St. Jarlath’s College Tuam hosted schools from one half of the county, while St. Mary’s in Galway was the venue for the other half. The recent prolonged rainfall resulted in tough conditions at St. Jarlath’s, testing the resolve of the mud-clad competitors in the minor, junior, intermediate and senior events.

 

 

Individual results from St. Jarlath’s were as follows. Minor Girls 1200m: 1 Rachel Finnegan (Loughrea VS), 2 Aoife Touhy (Athenry VS), 3 Yasmine Tobin (Pres. Athenry); Minor Boys 1500m: 1 Conor Caulfield (Pres. Athenry), 2 Kevin Reilly (Holy Rosary Mountbellew), 3 Pádraic Stapleton (Loughrea VS); Junior Girls 1500m: 1 Sacha Haverty (Pres. Athenry), 2 Ciara McHugh (St. Killian’s New Inn), 3 Alison Clarke (Loughrea VS); Junior Boys 3000m: 1 Paddy Finnerty (Pres. Athenry), 2 Jonathan Hynes (Loughrea VS), 3 Reece Grehan (Pres. Athenry); Intermediate Girls 3000m: 1 Elaine Touhy (Athenry VS), 2 Laura Shaughnessy (Loughrea VS), 3 Lindsey Mahoney (Loughrea VS). Intermediate Boys 4500m: 1. Seamus Gilhooley (Athenry VS), 2 Kevin Cunningham (Loughrea VS), 3 Matthias Coleman (St. Jarlath’s); Senior Girls: 1 Sarah Finnegan, 2 Catherine Kelly, 3 Rebecca Finnegan (all Loughrea VS); Senior Boys 6500m: 1 David Burns (St. Killian’s New Inn); 2 James Rodgers (St. Jarlath’s), 3 Jason Broderick (St. Raphael’s Loughrea).

Minor Boys: 1 Athenry Pres (30 pts), 2 Loughrea VS (33 pts), 3 St. Raphael’s Loughrea (53 pts); Junior Girls: 1 St. Killian’s New Inn (12 pts), 2 Loughrea VS (17 pts); Junior Boys: 1 Loughrea VS (24 pts), 2 St. Killian’s New Inn (27 pts); Intermediate Girls: 1 Loughrea VS (11 pts); Intermediate Boys: 1 St. Killian’s New Inn (46 pts), 2 St. Raphael’s Loughrea (47 pts), 3 Loughrea VS (55 pts); Senior Girls: 1 Loughrea VS (6 pts); Senior Boys: 1 St. Jarlath’s.
