Galway’s profile in the athletics world continued to advance at the weekend with sprinters Gemma Hynes and Katie Lydon from Galway City Harriers together with Louise Kiernan (Fingallians) and Claire Brady (Celbridge) making up the Irish U20 Women’s 4x200m relay team in the annual Celtic International in Cardiff.

The team won the relay event in a time of 1:41.85. The Galway girls’ performance was particularly impressive given that both are u18s competing 2 years above their age group.

Also in Cardiff, Paul McNamara from Athenry AC competed on the Irish team in the Celtic International Cross-Country, finishing in a commendable 9th position in a time of 31:02, followed in 16th place by Jerry Ryan from GCH in a time of 31:44.
