The Kit Kat Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals were held in Forest Park, Boyle on Thursday with a large turnout from 2nd level schools throughout Connacht and counties Longford and Westmeath. Running conditions were reasonably good, with the difficulty of running on the soft ground balanced by the pleasant weather conditions. The races were run off efficiently by the race organisers, with the Minor Girls event leading the way at 1pm.

Galway schools took home 3 individual titles and 5 team titles out of the 8 individual and 8 team titles on offer. International pentathlon athlete Claire Rockall from Calasanctius Oranmore displayed her prowess on the turf by winning the Junior Girls 1500m with over 30 metres to spare. Conor Caulfield from Presentation Athenry overcame the challenge from Ballinasloe athlete Darragh McCormack to take first place in the Minor Boys 1500m, while N Kenny from Colaiste Iognaid took the title in the Intermediate Boys 4500m.
