Taylorís Hill Clinch National Cross Country Title

A number of Galway athletes excelled in the Kit Kat Irish Schools Cross Country finals in Dungarvan on Friday.

Claire Rockall from Calasanctius Oranmore took silver medal in the Junior Girls 2000m for the 2nd year in succession. Irene Gorman from Taylor’s Hill led her team to the National title in the Junior Girls team competition. Taylor’s Hill won with a total of 61 pts from Abbey CC Waterford in 2nd place with 64 pts. The Taylor’s Hill team was I Gorman (15), N O’Ceallaigh (16), T Tyson (30), A Skelton, F Fitzgibbon and S Kelly. Julie Larkin from Portumna CS also put in a fine run to finish in 26th position in the same race.

Elsewhere, Gary Thornton form GCH finished in 9th position in the National 4k Cross Country Championships in Santry, while in the high profile Ballycotton 10 miler in Co. Cork there were strong representation from Athenry AC and also from Hewlett Packard Running Club, with Mick Rice and Peter Delmer from Athenry placing in the top 100 in this field of almost 3000 runners.
